تدور أحداث الفيلم حول عايدة (مديحة يسري) التي تحب ابن خالتها الضابط أحمد (عماد حمدي) ويبادلها نفس الشعور، يرفض والدها (سراج منير ) تزويجها إياه ويهددها بتدمير مستقبله، ويزوجها رغمًا عنها بابن رئيس الوزراء حتى يستطيع الاستفادة من نفوذ والده، بضياع أمل أحمد بالزواج من عايدة فيتزوج هو أيضًا بأخرى، لكنها سرعان ما تُتوفي بينما تكتشف عايدة خيانة زوجها.
