We wrześniu 1944 roku, upojeni sukcesem inwazji na Normandię, alianci rozpoczęli tajne przygotowania do operacji Market Garden. Był to szalony plan szybkiego zakończenia wojny przez zaatakowanie Niemiec i całkowite zniszczenie zakładów przemysłu wojennego III Rzeszy.
